Life Science Young Leaders High School Internship Program

The Wong Opportunity Program connects high school students with internships at leading life science companies and research institutions to encourage their interest in the life sciences. Students will be placed in a 6-week virtual internship working alongside professionals in San Diego’s top research institutions and biotechnology companies. During the internship, students will take part in career and college seminars, scientific talks, virtual company tours, and more. Students will learn common laboratory techniques and procedures, safety practices, and soft skills for how to be successful in a professional environment.

**Students need to be 16 by June 28 to be able to qualify for a work permit

Program Details

  • Program Dates: 7/2/21-8/13/21
  • Eligibility – The program is limited to Sophomore-Senior students currently enrolled at Hoover High School in San Diego    
  • Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and a stipend
  • Average 5-10 hours per week commitment (schedule TBD)

 

Heithoff-Brody High School Summer Scholars Program - Hybrid 2021 (Great opportunity for students 16+)

Highlights:
-8 week PAID internship is an opportunity for high school students to gain real-life experience performing scientific research while developing the skill sets needed for STEM careers. 
- will be mentored by Salk scientists 
-opportunity to work in a Salk lab. 
-Summer of 2021 (scheduled to take place from June 21st to August 13th)

PAID 25 to 30 hours per week!
Students will spend approximately 5 to 10 hours working in a Salk lab with their assigned mentor.
When not working in the lab, students will be expected to participate in virtual lab meetings, virtual seminars, and complete independent projects offsite. 
The deadline to apply is April 7th.

Introduction to Research Science and Communication Virtual Program
The Salk Introduction to Research Science and Communication Virtual Program is inspired by the professional development opportunities that have been a part of the Heithoff-Brody Summer Scholars program. This will be in continuing collaboration with the Biocom Institute Life Science Young Leaders program. Program elements will include scientific readings, data analysis, science presentation delivery, and virtual lab simulations.
